Dirk Kuyt is encouraging Merseyside girls to challenge their dad's to a penalty shoot-out at this weekend's Women's Super League
Dirk Kuyt is encouraging Merseyside girls to challenge their dad's to a penalty shoot-out at this weekend's Women's Super League (WSL) games.
The FA is aiming to encourage more Dads to take their daughters to football games.
Liverpool Ladies FC is helping to drive the initiative with activities including a penalty shoot-out, at their match against championship hopefuls Arsenal this Sunday.
Dad and Liverpool FC player, Dirk Kuyt said, "When we look around Anfield it's great to see so many young girls as well as lads coming to watch football. I love to try and have a kick about with my daughter, as well as my sons, and it's great to see the ladies team supporting this campaign."
Vicky Jones, captain of Liverpool Ladies said: "The Dad's vs. Daughters penalty shoot-out will bring some extra excitement to what is an important final game for us. My Dad was a big influence on my career. My sister and I loved to play football with him and it will be great to see other girls enjoying the same with their Dads.
"It is sad to see the end of what has been a wonderful first WSL, Sunday will be an exciting game, as we will have to play a great Arsenal side for our chance to get 7th spot."

Aquilani completes loan move to Milan
Liverpool midfielder Alberto Aquilani has completed a loan move to AC Milan, the Italian side have confirmed.
The 27-year-old has joined until next summer, with an option to extend his stay until June 2014.
Milan can make the Italy international's move permanent if he makes at least 25 appearances for this them this season.
Aquilani spent last season on loan at Juventus before returning to Anfield this summer.
A statement from AC Milan read: "AC Milan announces it has acquired Alberto Aquilani on loan with an option to buy the player's rights from Liverpool."
The former Roma playmaker said: "I am delighted to have arrived here. This is a leap in my career.
"I have come to Milan to do well. The clause of making at least 25 appearances? It's not a problem for me and I'm not thinking about it.
"I will do everything possible to earn the trust of the club."
Aquilani failed to hold down a regular first time place under Rafa Benitez, Roy Hodgson and Kenny Dalglish after signing for the Reds in 2009, starting in just 18 games in that period.
Damien Comolli, Liverpool director of football, said: "I want to pay tribute to the way Alberto has conducted himself during these discussions.
"Throughout the entire process, his only desire has been to play football and he has put this ahead of any other considerations and at personal cost to himself. We wish him well for the season ahead."
Mark Webber quickest in Belgian Grand Prix practice
Red Bull's Mark Webber set the pace from Ferrari's Fernando Alonso in a rain-interrupted practice session at the Belgian Grand Prix.
The Australian set a best lap of one minute 50.321 seconds to beat Alonso by just 0.140secs, with McLaren's Jenson Button and Lewis Hamilton next.
Button was 0.449secs adrift of Webber, with Hamilton 0.068secs further back.
Force India's Paul di Resta was ninth on his F1 debut at Spa, just behind the team's reserve driver Nico Hulkenberg.
Both sessions on Friday were disrupted by rain.
The second session started on a damp track after showers in the lunch interval, but it dried up sufficiently for a period of running on slick tyres in the middle of the session.
The drivers first ran on harder 'medium' tyres, on which World Championship leader Sebastian Vettel was fastest by 0.3secs from Hamilton.
Vettel did not go out on the soft tyres towards the end of the dry window, unlike Webber, Alonso, Button, Hamilton, Ferrari's Felipe Massa and Mercedes' Nico Rosberg, who were fifth and sixth.
The performance comparison between the cars around the lap was as expected.
Webber was more than 0.3secs faster than Alonso in the middle sector of the lap, which features a sequence of medium- and high-speed corners, while the Ferrari and the McLaren clawed back some time in the first and second sectors, which are mainly straights and slow corners.
It remains to be seen how that split will balance out in terms of overall lap time in qualifying and the race.
Hamilton said: "It was quite cool at the end, we got a couple of laps in the dry. We were able to do a couple of installation laps and work out what downforce levels to run.
"The weather was supposed to be worse today, but the weekend was supposed to be nice, but now I hear it's going to be like this all weekend.
"We seem to be OK in the wet, but I think we're also quite solid in the dry. The end of the straights will be quite interesting. Some people are very fast at the end of the straights, some people are quicker in the infield."
Hamilton survived a scary moment in the first session when his car snapped away from him heading towards the super-fast Blanchimont corner towards the end of the lap.
"It was just before Blanchimont," he said. "There was a small river across the track. I must have been doing 150mph and I had a huge tank-slapper. I'm glad I was awake to catch it otherwise it probably would have made an awful mess of the car."
HRT technical director Geoff Willis, acting as an analyst for BBC Sport, said: "I still think the Red Bulls are looking strong but Alonso and the McLarens are fighting back. It's not going to be an easy one to call, and with the DRS (overtaking aid) you'll have to fight until the last lap."
BBC 5 live analyst Anthony Davidson added: "I think the Ferraris should be pretty strong here."
DRS - which reduces drag to boost straightline speed - can be used in the race on the straight up the hill after Eau Rouge, if a driver is within a second of the car in front at a designated point on the track.
Michael Schumacher set the fastest time in the morning session as he starts the weekend that marks the 20th anniversary of his F1 debut. He and Mercedes team-mate Rosberg were the only men who set a time before it rained.
A downpour soaked the track and although it dried as the session went on, it was never dry enough for slick tyres.
The fastest driver on intermediate tyres in those conditions was Button with a lap time of two minutes 2.740 seconds - a second faster than Vettel, who was running behind him on the track.
Hamilton was fifth fastest overall, ahead of Force India's Adrian Sutil.
Unusually, Sutil sat out the second session in favour of Hulkenberg - usually reserve drivers run in the first session on Friday.
Sutil was not happy, telling BBC Sport: "We changed the session with Nico this morning. It is not good for the performance to not be in the car.
"It's a bit disappointing what the team does because it's not good for the success but I had to sit out for the afternoon and will do my best tomorrow.
"It was the only dry session we had and I missed it. But [this morning] I felt good, the car was fast and as usual we can expect a good performance here."
As drivers explored the wet conditions in the morning, Bruno Senna crashed, an inauspicious start to his first race weekend for Renault at Turn Nine.
Scot Paul di Resta, who had never driver an F1 car at Spa before, also had a similar off at that tricky downhill corner.
That incident brought out a red flag as the session was stopped while marshals recovered the Force India from the barriers.
Senna was much more impressive in the second session.
In the wet early running, the Brazilian was initially running third behind Webber and Alonso, before later moving up to second behind Vettel.
He ended the session 17th, with his Renault team-mate Vitaly Petrov down in 24th.
McLaren arrived in Belgium intending to use a new rear wing that has a more powerful straight-line speed boost when the DRS overtaking device is engaged.
But the wet conditions prevented them properly assessing its effect.
They also have a redesigned exhaust on the car in an attempt to increase downforce.
World champions Red Bull are hoping to return to the front this weekend after failing to win since Vettel's victory in Valencia at the end of June.
The team ran some bright green 'flo-viz' paint, which allows them to see the airflow over parts of the car, on the diffuser of Webber's RB7, which suggests they may have some new designs on the floor.
South Africa has agreed to host the African Cup of Nations in 2013.
The South African Football Association said on Thursday it had signed an agreement with Libya's football federation to host the 2013 African Cup of Nations in place of the troubled north African nation.
In its statement, SAFA said the agreement will see Libya stage the 2017 Cup of Nations, which was initially awarded to South Africa, with the 2010 World Cup host country taking over the African Cup in two years' time.
Libya's staging of Africa's top football championship had been in doubt since the uprising against dictator Moammar Gadhafi.
The Confederation of African Football denied the 2013 tournament had already been taken away from Libya, but conceded the country's hosting would be discussed by the ruling body's executive committee next month.
SAFA had said its deal to swap tournaments with Libya must still be confirmed by CAF at that executive committee meeting in Cairo on September 28.
"All the issues regarding 2013 will be discussed at the end of September," CAF spokesman Suleiman Habuba said later on Thursday.
"The issues regarding 2013 will definitely be discussed by the executive committee and decisions on tournament hosting can only be made by the executive committee."
The South Africa-Libya agreement also covers the 2014 African Nations Cup, a tournament for emerging players, which was also to be hosted by Libya, SAFA said.
Prepared for event
SAFA added the deal had come "following the political upheaval in Libya," but did not give details on when it had been signed.
South Africa already stepped in this year to cover for Libya by organising the African Youth Championship at short notice in Johannesburg in April.
Libya's civil war has escalated this week with anti-Gadhafi rebels taking over much of the Libyan capital Tripoli and overrunning Gadhafi's personal compound, forcing the longtime ruler to retreat into hiding.
Egypt was reportedly also interested in hosting the 2013 Cup of Nations should it be taken away from Libya, while Nigeria was the reserve host after it lost out in the initial race to host the event.
However South Africa, with its existing infrastructure from last year's World Cup, is regarded as the best choice for CAF as a stand-in host.
Gabon and Equatorial Guinea will co-host the next African Cup of Nations in January and February next year, while another north African country, Morocco, will hold the 2015 tournament.
Africa has back-to-back Cup of Nations tournaments in 2012 and 2013.

Liverpool defender Jose Enrique confirmed his settlement in the club
Liverpool defender Jose Enrique says the Reds fans can expect more from him once he settles in at the club.
The 25-year-old moved to Anfield from Newcastle just 24 hours before the 1-1 draw with Sunderland on Saturday.
"I know I'm not 100% because I have to train more with the team," Enrique told BBC Radio Merseyside.
"In the next few games if I continue to play it will be really easy to understand the players here. I have to get to know them more."
He added: "But I think it's fitness and that is normal, we've only played the first game and we need to get more fit. We have to think about the next game, as that is really important too."
Liverpool travel to Arsenal on Saturday looking for their first win of the season, and are without an away win against the Gunners since February 2000, with former striker Titi Camera scoring the winning goal.
But after completing his Anfield debut at the weekend, Enrique thanked the fans for the reception he had against the Black Cats.
"The atmosphere is amazing, but I played in Newcastle and they have really good fans too," the Spaniard continued.
"But I'm here and I'm accustomed to playing with fans like that. The fans here are very good."
Murray to face David Nalbandian in Cincinnati this evening
Andy Murray will try to kick-start his US Open build-up when he meets David Nalbandian in his opening match at the Western & Southern Open on Wednesday.
The Briton suffered a surprise loss to Kevin Anderson in Montreal last week and Cincinnati is his only remaining tournament ahead of Flushing Meadows.
Murray had a first-round bye as the fourth seed.
He is due on court after Caroline Wozniacki's match against Christina McHale, which starts at 1600 BST.
Novak Djokovic and Serena Williams are among the ATP and WTA players on show in Cincinnati, and after winning titles in Canada over the weekend the pair are firm favourites ahead of the US Open, which begins in New York on 29 August.
Djokovic plays American Ryan Harrison in his opening match at 0000 BST, after Williams faces a repeat of Sunday's final against Sam Stosur in her thrid-round match on Wednesday.
Rafael Nadal will look to recover from last week's shock defeat by Ivan Dodig when he takes on Julien Benneteau of France at around 1800 BST.
British hopes in Cincinnati rest solely on world number four Murray after Anne Keothavong, Elena Baltacha and Laura Robson all fell in qualifying.
Murray is in the same half of the draw as world number two Rafael Nadal, while Djokovic is seeded to meet Roger Federer in the semi-finals.
World number 66 Nalbandian and Murray have met four times and share a 2-2 record, with the Scot having won their last two matches.

Van Persie became a new Arsenal captain after the departure of Fabregas
Arsenal striker Robin van Persie has been confirmed as the club's new captain.
The 28-year-old Holland international has been at the club since May 2004 and takes the armband from Cesc Fabregas, who left for Barcelona this week.
Manager Arsene Wenger told the official matchday programme: "He is a leader through the way he plays, through his attitude and through his desire to win.
"He's been at the club a long time and he's a technical leader as well."
Van Persie, who will be assisted by defender Thomas Vermaelen, said he was relishing the opportunity.
"As captain, you are an ambassador for the club and I'm ready for that," said the Dutchman. "I've been in the game now for more than 10 years, so I know how this world works.
"You should always try to show respect. This is just basic stuff that all human beings should have in their life - just being nice to people.
"It's the little things, like giving people a minute of your time in the street. You show them respect and live with your principles on life."
Van Persie will not lead Arsenal out against Udinese in Tuesday's Champions League qualifier because he is serving a one-match Uefa suspension.
But he will take over when Liverpool visit the Emirates on Saturday for a Premier League match.

Serena Williams wins over Samantha Stosur in the Rogers Cup final in Montreal
Serena Williams made it back-to-back tournament victories with a 6-4 6-2 win over Samantha Stosur in the Rogers Cup final in Montreal on Sunday.
The win comes after the American's success in the Bank of the West Classic two weeks ago and is a boost ahead of the US Open, which begins on 29 August.
Williams is currently ranked 80th in the world after being sidelined for a year by injury and illness.
But her return to form continued as she beat the world number 11 in 77 minutes.
Williams sent down nine aces and won 89% of her first serve points for her 39th career title.
She broke the Australian's serve to go 5-4 up in the first set and went on to break Stosur twice more in the second set before clinching victory with an ace.
Williams was injured shortly after winning the 2010 Wimbledon title, cutting her foot on a piece of glass and requiring two operations.
She spent 20 weeks in a cast and walking boot and in February was diagnosed with blood clots in her lung which kept her out until June.
Sunday's victory means she is set to move up to 31 in the new world rankings.

Jose Enrique from Newcastle to Liverpool
Liverpool have completed the signing of Newcastle full-back Jose Enrique for a reported £6m.
The 25-year-old becomes manager Kenny Dalglish's fifth summer signing.
"This is one of the happiest days of my life. I have come to one of the biggest clubs not just in England, but in the world," said the Spaniard.
Enrique joins Jordan Henderson, Charlie Adam, Alexander Doni and Stewart Downing in moving to Liverpool during the summer.
"I am excited by the new signings - it shows Liverpool's ambition," added Enrique, who has signed a long-term deal.
"They spent a lot of money in January on Andy [Carroll] and Luis Suarez, and this summer they've spent a lot of money on other players.
"You can see they have big ambitions and that's why I came here - because I want to win things and I think I can do that here.
"My ambition is win everything with Liverpool. This year we won't play in the Champions League, so the most important thing is to try and win the league."
Enrique added that Liverpool's illustrious history had played a major part in convincing him to move to Anfield.
"They have won a lot of things, including the Champions League," he said.
"Of course I am looking forward to playing in front of the Kop. Everybody speaks about the fans here and they are amazing. I am looking forward to it. I hope it will be this weekend, but if not I can wait."
Enrique joins Liverpool a little more than 24 hours ahead of their Premier League season opener at home to Sunderland.
The Spaniard, who joined Newcastle from Villarreal in 2007 for £6.3m, was disciplined by United last month after criticising their decision to sell major players, such as Carroll and Kevin Nolan, on his Twitter account.

Rafael Nadal is out of the Rogers Cup
Rafael Nadal is out of the Rogers Cup after a shock second round defeat against Croatia's Ivan Dodig.
The Spaniard, playing for the first time since losing to Novak Djokovic in the Wimbledon final in July, won the opening set 6-1.
However, Dodig hit back to take the next two sets, both on tie-breaks, and clinch the match 1-6 7-6 7-6.
Two-time winner Roger Federer reached the last 16 with a 7-5 6-3 win over Canadian Vasek Pospisil.
Dodig, who hit 19 aces in all, will play Janko Tipsarevic for a place in the quarter-finals.
"This is the greatest moment of my life," said Dodig who is ranked 41 in the world.
Nadal, winner of the Canadian event in 2005 and 2008, said: "He played very well, very aggressive.
"He didn't feel the pressure in the important moments. And at the end of the match, probably I was a little bit unlucky today, no?"
Federer, who lost in last year's Montreal final to Andy Murray, broke his opponent once in each set serving four aces in total.
The 16-time Grand Slam champion will now play Jo-Wilfried Tsonga for a place in the quarter-finals.
Frenchman Tsonga, who beat Federer in an enthralling five-set epic in the quarter-finals at Wimbledon in June, beat Australian Bernard Tomic 6-3 7-6 (7-1).
Djokovic, the 2007 Rogers Cup champion, had to survive a scare before beating 30th-ranked Nikolay Davydenko of Russia 7-5 6-1 to improve his stunning 2011 winning record to 49-1 overall and 25-0 on hard courts.
Andy Murray put his singles' exit behind him as he teamed up with brother Jamie in the doubles event - the Scottish pair beat Canadians Eric Chvojka and Pierre-Ludovic Duclos in a final set champions tie-break.
The Murrays won the first set 6-2, then lost the second set by the same score. They won the deciding champions tie-break 10-7.
Liverpool have agreed a fee with Newcastle for Spanish defender Jose Enrique.
Liverpool have agreed a fee with Newcastle for Spanish defender Jose Enrique.
The 25-year-old left-back joined Newcastle for £6.3m in 2007 but hit out at the club last month on Twitter.
Liverpool manager Kenny Dalglish has been looking for a left-back since selling Paul Konchesky to Leicester earlier this summer.
The Reds will now discuss personal terms with the player, who will travel to Liverpool to undergo a medical.
Enrique will become Dalglish's fifth signing of the summer and join Charlie Adam, Stewart Downing, Jordan Henderson and Doni at Anfield.
He had one year left on his contract at St James' Park and was disciplined by the club last month for criticising the club's transfer policy on his Twitter account.
He said: "The club is allowing all the major players of the team to go. Seriously, do you think it is the fault of the players? Andy [Carroll], Nobby [Kevin Nolan)] etc etc.
"This club will never again fight to be among the top 6 again with this policy."
Liverpool ended last season with England right-back Glen Johnson playing on the left, while Dalglish also has the injured Fabio Aurelio and Argentina international Emiliano Insua in his squad.

Bernie Ecclestone to BBC: Games must go ahead
QPR owner Bernie Ecclestone has told BBC Sport that cancelling Premier League games in the wake of this week's rioting would send "a terrible message to the rest of the world".
A decision will be made on Thursday as to whether any of the three opening-round matches in London this weekend are to be postponed.
QPR play Bolton at Loftus Road on Saturday, their first Premier League fixture in 15 years, with Ecclestone confident the match will go ahead.
But several football fixtures have already been affected by the disturbances, including England's friendly against the Netherlands at Wembley, a cancellation Ecclestone described as "a disaster".
On Tuesday the Premier League and Football League issued a joint statement saying, "there is no reason to think any matches outside of London will be affected".
However, trouble then continued to spread from London on Tuesday night, and with police resources stretched across the UK, doubt has been cast on whether safety certificates will be issued for games.
There are nine league matches in the capital this weekend. As well as the QPR match, Spurs host Everton and Aston Villa travel to Fulham.
Football League games at risk are Crystal Palace v Burnley, Millwall v Nottingham Forest, Watford v Derby, Leyton Orient v Tranmere, Barnet v Port Vale, and Dagenham and Redbridge v AFC Wimbledon.
When asked if he feared the game at Loftus Road may fall victim to the rioting, Ecclestone told BBC Sport: "I've been told no. I don't think there'll be a threat to QPR. I've spoken to people at the club who seemed quite confident it will go ahead.
"The police seem to have managed to contain the things that have been going on. But there's not much stuff that people can loot at a match so it won't attract the kind of people that have been active in the last few days."
Premier League matches tend to require police officers inside the ground - paid for by the clubs - and at railway stations and locations where fans are liable to meet - funded by local forces.
With thousands of additional officers brought into the capital in the wake of Monday night's rioting, it may be that clubs will not receive a safety certificate from their local authority, and be forced to postpone.
Formula 1 boss Ecclestone had to contend with the cancellation of the Bahrain Grand Prix earlier this year following political unrest in the Arab state. But the billionaire said that the cancellation of Premier League matches would send a "terrible message to the world."
"Would we want to take a risk? It's a difficult decision to make" he said.
"The PL is watched everywhere I travel. I always see Manchester United on the TV wherever I am. So it's a very bad message for England, and we're going to have the Olympics soon.
"You imagine if this happened when the Games started. It would be terrible."
Ghana's friendly with Nigeria at Watford's Vicarage Road, and the Carling Cup tie between Bristol Rovers and Watford was also postponed at the request of the police, following the cancellation of Tuesday's ties at Charlton, West Ham, Crystal Palace and Bristol City.
The England v Netherlands game was cancelled by the Football Association after meetings with the Met and Brent Council because the safety of players and fans could not be guaranteed.
Ecclestone added: "They probably did the right thing. If there was trouble and the police were at Wembley people would have complained. But it's a disaster obviously."

Andy Murray's preparations for the US Open were dented after a 6-3 6-1 defeat to world number 35 Kevin Anderson.
Andy Murray's preparations for the US Open were dented after a 6-3 6-1 defeat to world number 35 Kevin Anderson.
Murray, the defending champion, was playing his first game at this year's Canadian Masters having been handed a bye into the second round.
But the Scot looked rusty as his six foot eight inch-tall opponent from South Africa dominated from the net, breaking Murray's serve three times.
"I just felt very slow, the game seemed to be going so fast," Murray said.
Murray, ranked number four in the world, served five double faults and looked sluggish in comparison to Anderson, who never allowed Murray to settle.
"I've trained really hard to get ready for the tournament. I've always played very well here," said Murray, who has won the last two Canadian Masters titles.
"I couldn't get anything going. I started both sets really, really badly which doesn't help against someone that serves like Kevin.
"I trained in Miami for two weeks before I came here on Thursday," added Murray.
Anderson was ruthless as he held for a 3-0 first-set lead before Murray eventually managed to hold in the fourth game of the match in blustery but warm conditions in Canada.
But a lacklustre Murray had no answer as Anderson, growing in confidence with every game, sealed the first set with an ace.
A series of unforced errors crept into Murray's game in the second set and Anderson ran away with it, condemning Murray to a defeat that is far from ideal preparation for the final major of the year, which gets underway in New York in less than three weeks.
"I came to the net a lot more and won a lot of points," said Anderson. "I'm playing really good tennis at the moment."
Murray, whose loss clears Rafael Nadal's path to the final, will now look to regroup in the doubles with brother Jamie and will hope to bounce back in the singles in Cincinnati next week.
In the day's other games in Montreal, home favourite Vasek Pospisilshocked Argentina's Juan Ignacio Chela 4-6 6-3 6-4 to set up a third round meeting with third seed Roger Federer.
Serbia's Janko Tipsarevic beat Colombia's Alejandro Falla 7-5 6-1.

Arsene Wenger fears losing both Cesc Fabregas and Samir Nasri by the time the Premier League starts this weekend
The two Arsenal stars are under- stood to be spoiling for a move over the next few days.
And if they do go it would heap huge embarrassment on Wenger, who last month said the Gunners would no longer consider them- selves a big club if they allowed their best players to leave.
But with both stars making no secret of their growing desire to quit, for Barcelona and Manchester City respectively, the club may have no option but to let them go.
Fabregas is so keen to get out he has agreed to a £4m-plus cut in his proposed contract at the Nou Camp.
The European champions had a bid of close to £30m plus around £5m in add-ons rejected on Friday, team is.
All game we dominated. We never know when a game is finished. We took them apart.
The scoreline is deserved. We’re champions and we’re the team to beat. We want to prove that.”
He added on Twitter: “Have to say. I think today was a footballing lesson. Great win for the champions.”
United dominated the first half. But Lescott headed in David Silva’s 38th minute free-kick and Dzeko’s 30-yard blockbuster on the stroke of half-time caught out sluggish United goalkeeper David de Gea.
Smalling gave United hope when he volleyed in Ashley Young’s free-kick on 52 minutes. Nani put the seal on a sensational seven-pass, four-man move and fired past Joe Hart to haul United level.
The Portuguese wing wizard capped the comeback in injury-time when he rounded Hart and tapped home the winner as United caught City with a late break.
United’s second-half side had an average age of just 22. Boss Fergie said: “It was a great performance. For us it just confirms what I’ve thought. We are very confident with this group of young players.
“People were saying that we’re not the best United squad, but you’ve got to remem- ber a lot of young players will improve.”
United striker Danny Welbeck picked up an ankle injury but reported for England duty last night.
City boss Roberto Mancini dismissed talk that United’s win gave them any advantage going into the new season.
He said: “I am disappointed because we were in the dressing room after 45 minutes leading 2-0. For us it’s important to under- stand why we lost this game and what we can do to improve.”
Mancini confirmed he has no interest in signing United target Wesley Sneijder and expects Carlos Tevez to begin training today after a three-week break following the Copa America

British number two James Ward has broken into the world's top 150
British number two James Ward has broken into the world's top 150 for the first time after victory in Vancouver.
The Londoner, 24, beat American Robby Ginepri 7-5 6-4 to win the VanOpen Challenger event on Sunday and push his ranking up 30 places to number 144.
Ward reached his first ATP semi-final at Queen's Club in June and then made the final at last month's Challenger event in Lexington, USA.
He plays in Binghamton this week, ahead of the US Open later this month.
"I've been playing well and been confident so to back it up with another final and a win was pleasing," Ward told The Province newspaper.
"This whole week has been a battle. I've not been playing my best, and it's always a good sign when you're not playing your best and you win.
"Hopefully I can continue it into the US Open, which is the one we're really looking forward to."
Ward will hope to come through qualifying at Flushing Meadows, with the main draw getting under way on 29 August.

Steven Gerrard: Luis Suarez is a special player and better than Tevez
Steven Gerrard has tipped Liverpool striker Luis Suarez to become the most famous South American in the Premier League – and prove he is an even better player than Carlos Tevez.
Argentina star Tevez was arguably the outstanding overseas player in England last year, scoring 24 goals as Manchester City won the FA Cup and qualified for the Champions League.
But Liverpool new boy Suarez is rapidly becoming South America’s No1 star.
The Uruguay forward was outstanding for Liverpool after moving to Anfield halfway through last season. He was also a hero in the Copa America this summer, scoring four goals and being named player of the tournament as his team lifted the trophy.
Gerrard said: “Luis is a special player, he really is. He’s so good. His movement, his touch, his awareness and the way he takes his goals is fantastic.
“It’s natural you are going to compare him to Tevez because of his build, his shape and the way he plays. But I think he can go on to be even better.”

Luis Suarez into Liverpool’s opening-day game of the new campaign
Kenny Dalglish wants to throw Luis Suarez into Liverpool’s opening-day game of the new campaign even though he hasn’t yet returned to pre-season training.
Luis Suarez, 24, is expected back at the start of next week after being given time off following Uruguay’s Copa America win last month.
The striker has featured in nine games for his country since his last appearance for Liverpool against Aston Villa on May 22.
But rather than easing Suarez back in, Dalglish is refusing to rule him out for the visit of Sunderland a week tomorrow.
“He’ll be back next week some time and we’ll start thinking about him then,” said Dalglish.
“He should be pretty happy with himself and pretty confident.
“We’ll see how he is when he comes in and have a discussion with him.
“But we need to be careful with him. We can’t predict what he is going to be like.”
Meanwhile, Bolton boss Owen Coyle is fuming to see his star defender Gary Cahill linked with a move to Anfield.
The England defender is entering the final 12 months of his contract and can leave for nothing next summer.
“At the moment it is hypothetical, so we’ll focus on the players we want to add to the club,” said Coyle.
New signing Tyrone Mears broke his leg in training yesterday, less than a week after signing from Burnley.الخميس، 4 أغسطس 2011
Owen Coyle rejects talk of Anfield move for Gary Cahill
Bolton manager Owen Coyle says reports suggesting star defender Gary Cahill is on the verge
of a big-money move to Liverpool are "without foundation".
The England defender has been linked with moves to Arsenal and Manchester City this summer. There has also been speculation suggesting that Liverpool are close to securing a deal for the 25-year-old.
But Coyle said: "It is irresponsible. Nothing has happened, there is nothing concrete, there is nothing to report."
Liverpool, who face Valencia in a friendly on Saturday at Anfield, have struggled defensively in pre-season and could do with back-up to the injury-prone Daniel Agger and veteran defender Jamie Carragher, 33.
But Coyle made it clear that an imminent move for Cahill to Anfield was not on the cards.
He said: "This story is without a shred of foundation. To just reel words off is in poor taste. Nothing surprises you in football but people should have more knowledge of the background for anything before they write it.
"It doesn't faze me. I am not raging about it. I am just making a point.
"If someone leaves, it will be the right business for the club but I don't pre-occupy myself with thoughts like that when I have a team to prepare for the rest of the season."
Kenny Dalglish vows to carry on spending in his bid to end Liverpool’s trophy drought
Kenny Dalglish last night vowed to carry on spending in his bid to end Liverpool’s trophy drought.
Kenny Dalglish has splashed out more than £100m since returning to the Anfield hot seat in January.
Yesterday he paraded summer captures Stewart Downing, Jordan Henderson, Charlie Adam and Alexander Doni at the club’s Melwood training base.

Dalglish has spent almost £50m since missing out on a place in Europe at the end of last season. But he is expected to swoop again before the transfer window closes with Newcastle’s £10m-rated Spanish defender Jose Enrique (left) a top target.
Dalglish said: “Certainly spending money does not guarantee success.
“I don’t know of any football club that has ever had success that has not spent money. So it is necessary.
“But it’s even more important to spend it wisely. Everybody you bring in you hope will improve the quality you already have here and enhance it.”
With Milan Jovanovic’s move to Anderlecht expected to be confirmed today, Dalglish is paving the way for new arrivals thanks to the backing of owner John W Henry.
Dalglish said: “He is genuinely a good man.
He cares passionately about the football club and he wants it to go in the right direction.
“Anyone who has got any affi nity for the football club will want that too. We are fortunate that there is nobody
pulling in the wrong direction.”
The Reds boss is still upbeat despite a poor run of form in pre-season friendlies.
Liverpool conceded three goals apiece in games against Guangdong, a Malaysia XI, Hull, Galatasaray and Valerenga.
And they have just one more match, against Valencia on Saturday, to tighten up before the opening Premier League fi xture against Sunderland.
“It could have been better but we’ve had a lot of people coming in at various times,” said Dalglish.
“Everybody that has been with us has had a reasonable amount of time on the pitch. As we get closer to the
Sunderland game we’ll pare it down a little bit.”
Martin Skrtel has suffered a fresh setback in his attempts to return from a damaged calf.
The Slovakian defender posted a message on his own website that said: “I am still not with my team.
I suffered an injury setback on Friday.
“I felt a strong pain in my leg so I am back with the doctors receiving treatment. I really don’t know how long it will take to heal. I am doing my best to be back as soon as possible.”

Liverpool forward Jovanovic to make Anderlecht move
The deal for the Serbian will be completed on Thursday, subject to the player passing a medical, the Belgian club announced on their website.
Jovanovic moved to Anfield from Standard Liege last summer on a free transfer, signing a three-year deal.
But he failed to command a place in the Liverpool side, making just 10 league appearances and not scoring.
Jovanovic joined Standard Liege in 2006 and helped them win back-to-back Belgian titles in 2007/08 and 2008/09.
The 30-year-old, who has also played for Shakhtar Donetsk and Lokomotiv Moscow, made his international debut for Serbia in a 2-0 win over Finland in June 2007 and has won 35 caps.
Liverpool, who have spent close to £50m on Jordan Henderson, Stewart Downing and Charlie Adam during the summer, are looking to offload a number of fringe players in their squad.

Dirk Kuyt: If we beat Sunderland in our first game, then it’s been a good pre-season for us
Dirk Kuyt admitted Liverpool have to sort out their defensive woes to have a chance of securing a Champions League place.
Manager Kenny Dalglish has splashed out £44m on the midfield this summer in an attempt to improve on last season’s sixth-place finish.
But the defensive problems which dogged the team last season have been evident in pre-season after leaking 15 goals in five games.
If we beat Sunderland in our first game, then it’s been a good pre-season for us." Dirk Kuyt
Liverpool have not kept a clean sheet since they beat Newcastle at Anfield on May 1 and have just one more friendly – against Valencia on Saturday – to find a solution.
Kuyt insists that Liverpool have to show greater strength in defence to have a chance of securing a top-four place next season.
The Dutch international said: “We are letting in too many goals.
“But the point is we have to defend like a team. That starts from the front and we need to improve.
“We know we have the ability and we just need to train really hard. We have another practice game on Saturday to put things right.
“I’m sure if we do that a little bit better in the next game, then we will be ready for the opening game against Sunderland. I’m not concerned as it’s still pre-season.

Alberto Aquilani featured as a late substitute in Monday’s 3-3 draw with Valerenga in Norway. However, the midfielder could be on his way to AC Milan in a cut-price move.
Aquilani’s agent, Franco Zavaglia, believes Liverpool could be prepared to sell his player for as little as £8.7m, having brought him from Roma in a deal worth up to £20m two years ago.
Zavaglia plans to speak with AC Milan vice-president Adriano Galliani, who is currently in China.
He said: “Galliani is now in China for the Italian Super Cup, but I expect to talk to him when he comes back. I think an agreement could be reached for a figure of around l10m (£8.7m).”
Fiorentina have also expressed an interest in signing Aquilani. But the player could remain at Anfield if the club decide not to sell on the cheap.
Meanwhile, Liverpool have agreed to offload winger Milan Jovanovic on a free transfer to Anderlecht.
The 30-year-old started just five league games last season after arriving from Standard Liege last summer.
