Jockey Peter Toole is expected to be brought out of his medically-induced coma after being seriously hurt in a fall at Aintree on Saturday.
Toole was injured when his mount, the outsider Classic Fly, fell in the early stages of the Maghull Novices' Chase. "Peter Toole has had a CT scan this afternoon," said trainer Charlie Mann in his Twitter feed on Monday.
"Doctors are happy for him to gradually come out of his induced coma through the night."
The 22-year-old Irishman was taken to the nearby Fazakerley Hospital on Saturday after suffering bleeding on the right side of his brain.
But he was later transferred to the neighbouring Walton Centre For Neurology and Neurosurgery.
Arthur Whiting, who trains Classic Fly, said: "It's very, very sad. I feel so bad about it. The horse seems fine, he came back and ate straight up."
Tony McCoy, who rode Don't Push It to third in Saturday's Grand National, was among those to write well wishes on social networking site Twitter.
"Don't push it ran great 2day v proud of him, but more importantly thoughts and prayers are with Peter Toole who has a serious head injury," McCoy tweeted.
Toole has ridden 30 winners this season, with his biggest success coming aboard the Mann-trained Fine Parchment in the Greatwood Gold Cup at Newbury last month.
