Live - Liverpool v Man City

2011: Carroll opens up centre-backs Joleon Lescott and Vincent Kompany with a clever through ball for Luis Suarez, whose shot is parried on to the post by the sprawling Joe Hart. Great save from the England keeper to thwart the former Ajax striker, who cannot quite believe it. Great start to the game - fast-paced, lots of slick passing and plenty of physical muscle.

2009: Andy Carroll uses his physical strength beautifully, chesting a long ball into Suarez's apth. The Uruguayan uncharacteristically miscontrols the ball but the ball finds Dirk Kuyt, whose first time shot from 25 yards flies high over the crossbar.
2008: Adam Johnson attempts to take on Fabio Aurelio with a right-wing run, but the England international runs out of space with Carlos Tevez and Edin Dzeko lurking. Expect Johnson to switch flanks and give young John Flanagan a proper working over at some stage in this match.
2005: City make the early inroad into Liverpool territory but Gareth Barry - a man who issued the "come and get me plea" to Liverpool - sends a terrible pass 35 yards from goal. The capacity Anfield crowd appreciated that.
Dinglor on Twitter: "Ref Michaela baby naming. What if it's a draw? Mark (Halsey?)"

2003: So Liverpool to kick off as Andy Carroll and Luis Suarez - £60m of goal-scoring talent - get the game under way.
2000: Before this evening's proceedings, a minute's silence is observed ahead of the 22nd anniversary of the Hillsborough disaster, as well as for the wife of former Anfield favourite David Fairclough, who passed away earlier today.

From Michaela, text 81111: "Didn't sleep a wink last night. The name of my first child rests on this game; if City win my boyfriend gets Carlos and if Liverpool win, I get Stevie JJ. Come on the Reds!!!"
1958: If you refresh your web browser, you should be able to pick up the Radio 5 live commentary from this evening's game on the right-hand side of the page.
GavJB on Twitter: "Dear Stan, welcome to the club, just remember, there's no such thing as 'too much' for a unfit player. Love Roman.."
Infostrada Live on Twitter: "Manchester City have lost their last 7 PL matches led by referee Mark Halsey and are winless in their last 12 led by Halsey, since beating Everton 2-0 in October 2005."

b>From Ben, Manchester, text 81111: "I'd write 'Dear Stan, money can't buy Europe - love Roman'."
Touche, Ben, touche.

1952: A victory for City this evening will see them open up a one-point lead over Chelsea (who have an "obsession to win the European Cup and that's why they bought Torres" according to Sir Alex Ferguson earlier on Monday) and three points behind Arsenal, although both London teams will have played a game less. A Liverpool defeat would effectively wave goodbye to any aspirations of Champions League football next season, something not on owner John W Henry's agenda.
imjakeh on Twitter: "Only one holding midfielder for City today.. blimey.. times are changing.."
1949: The earlier match between the two teams back in August was marked by the first appearance at Eastlands of City's multi-gazillionaire owner Sheikh Mansour, who saw his expensively assembled team take Liverpool apart 3-0, with Carlos Tevez scoring twice along with Gareth Barry's strike. While Liverpool have lost 10 on the road, at home they are a different proposition. From 15 matches this season, they have won nine at Anfield, drawn four and lost only twice. City's away form is not bad - won six, drawn four and lost five. Strap yourselves in for what, on paper, looks a corker.

1947: Right then, let's have it - plenty of intriguing chat knocking around this evening. You can encapsulate your thoughts in 140 characters or less using the hashtag #BBCFootball on Twitter or feel free to text via 81111 (UK) instead.

LIVERPOOL v MAN CITY (2000 BST)
Chief football writer Phil McNulty reports from Anfield: "Manchester City go to Liverpool intent on keeping their distance from Tottenham in the battle for fourth place and qualification for next season's Champions League - a prime objective even with an FA Cup semi-final against Manchester United at Wembley on Saturday on the horizon. Liverpool still have European hopes of their own, although Kenny Dalglish must try to achieve it with a squad ravaged by injuries. Steven Gerrard is out until next season after groin surgery, while Daniel Agger is another who will not figure again in this campaign and Glen Johnson is out for a month with a hamstring problem."

1941: If, like me, you're wondering exactly who John Flanagan is, the Liverpool website has come up with this little summation: "John is a tough-tackling right-back who hails from Liverpool. He is known for his aerial ability and composure on the ball and made a huge impression during his first campaign with the U18s. The teen full-back has since featured for the reserves on a number of occasions and played his part in the second-string's double Senior Cup success of 2010." If that doesn't fill you Reds fans full of hope, expectation and outright pride, then I have no idea what will. However, I get the feeling whoever wrote that probably didn't expect Flanagan to make his Premier League debut against Manchester City.

Chief football writer Phil McNulty at Anfield "Liverpool's defensive injury problems give Kenny Dalglish the opportunity to hand a debut to local Academy graduate John Flanagan. Manchester City leave David Silva and Nigel de Jong on the bench, presumably with Saturday's FA Cup semi-final in mind, but Carlos Tevez, Adam Johnson and Edin Dzeko will hope to put that weakened Liverpool rearguard to the test."

1933: TEAM NEWS:
Liverpool: Reina, Flanagan, Carragher, Skrtel, Aurelio, Kuyt, Lucas, Spearing, Meireles, Suarez, Carroll. Subs: Gulacsi, Cole, Maxi, Wilson, Ngog, Shelvey, Robinson.
Man City: Hart, Boyata, Kompany, Lescott, Kolarov, Barry, Toure Yaya, Milner, Tevez, Adam Johnson, Dzeko. Subs: Taylor, Zabaleta, Wright-Phillips, Silva, De Jong, Balotelli, McGivern.
Referee: Mark Halsey (Lancashire)

1929: On a day when Arsenal become the 10th foreign-owned football club in the Premier League, two teams who have been out of English hands for a few years must be wondering what all the fuss is about at the Emirates. Wonder if Stan Kroenke received a "welcome to the club" text message from John W Henry or Sheik Mansour? If you were a billionaire Premier League club owner, what would you write to Stan?
